The Only Recipe You Need For “Homemade Flour Tortillas”

When I first learned how to make tortillas they were a mess. You do not pour (can you imagine?) tortillas onto a comal and expect them to be good. It took me a while to learn how to make them right.

This recipe for “Homemade Flour Tortillas” is the only one you will ever need. I love making food from scratch and these flour tortillas are very simple to make.

When I perfected this recipe I use to be the Tortilla Queen of the neighborhood and neighbors would come and watch me make them to see what I did. I learned how to make them from a cute little Mexican lady long ago and they are the best.

These flour tortillas are delicious for tacos, quesadillas, breakfast burritos plus more. I love them warm with some butter.

These Easy Homemade Flour Tortillas are so much better than anything from the store. This recipe uses ingredients you likely have in your kitchen.

Tortillas are generally cooked on a comal on medium heat, which is basically a round, flat, cast iron griddle. That is the best way to cook them but you can just use a non-stick frying pan. Once the tortillas are cooked, place them in a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm while you cook the others.

YOU ONLY NEED 4 INGREDIENTS….

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Warm water
  • Fat

Some tortilla recipes swear by adding baking powder to the dough for softer flour tortillas, but I have never done that so I leave the baking powder out.

Make a big batch of these “Homemade Flour Tortillas” and freeze some for later! Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and foil, and freeze for up to 3 months. Then when you are ready to reheat, you just warm them in a skillet or microwave.

Give this recipe a try – your family is going to love it! Be proud of yourself you are making Homemade Flour Tortillas” from scratch. ♥
