Make Your House Smell Like Christmas

It’s beginning to smell a lot like Christmas Ho Ho Ho!! This time of the year is so magical. Today let me tell you about a way to make your house smell just like Christmas.

Have you ever made stove top potpourri before? If not you are missing out.

Stovetop potpourri is a mix of natural ingredients heated in water on your stove that creates a delicious aroma.

Stovetop potpourris are also called simmer pots because you leave them on the heat and simmer all day long.

Potpourris are so easy to make and make your entire home smell amazing. I love that you can re-use the mixture for weeks by adding water and simmering on your stove top.

A pot of water and a few items from your pantry and fridge are all you need to bring back Christmas memories of years past.

The fun thing about this “recipe”is that you can add a bunch of other things if you want too!

INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE HOLIDAY STOVETOP POTPOURRI….

  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Whole Cloves
  • Cranberries
  •  Vanilla Bean + Vanilla Extract
  • Tangerines
  • Small Branch Fresh Pine
  • Apple Cider, Pomegranate or Cranberry Juice
  • Whole Cinnamon Sticks
  • Water

Just a FYI……This is not a drinkable recipe and is to be used as potpourri only. 

OTHER INGREDIENTS YOU CAN ADD…..

  • Apple Slices
  • Vanilla Bean or Vanilla Extract
  • Lemon Slices
  • Fresh Rosemary

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS POTPOURRI IN A SLOW COOKER…..

  1. Place all ingredients in a slow cooker with 4-6 cups water.
  2. Set on HIGH covered and let it cook for several hours or uncovered on HIGH for more scent.
  3. If uncovered, add more water as necessary.

To use the ingredients, simply empty them into a small crock pot or sauce pan on the stove top.  Cover with water.  Turn the heat and let your whole family enjoy the smells of Christmas.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 3  tangerines halved
  • 3  whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp  whole cloves
  • 1 inch  piece fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean & vanilla extract
  • 1  small branch fresh pine
  • 1 cup apple cider, pomegranate or cranberry juice
  • water

Instructions
 

  • Combine all the ingredients in a medium size sauce pot. Fill the pot with water until it reaches 3/4 the way full.
  • Place the pot on the stove and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer, adding more water as needed.
  • Just be sure to keep adding more water throughout the day.
