Have you ever wondered how to boil an egg?  I have cooked thousands of these eggs in my life. I worked at a big Retirement place for a few years and every morning at breakfast time the residents were able to choose what kind of eggs they wanted. Some wanted scrambled, some poached, some over easy and so forth.
Chicken eggs are the most popular type of eggs for everyday eating, but duck and quail eggs are also fairly common to boil. There are plenty of other edible eggs out there—including goose, emu and ostrich eggs! (did you know that one ostrich egg is equivalent to about 24 chicken eggs?)
Chicken eggs come in lots of colors.....blue, white, brown, green, and everything in between. It does not matter what color they are because they all cook the same.
At our house it is a great idea to keep hard boiled eggs in your refrigerator as they are a delicious snack for the whole family. There are a lot of yummy recipes that use eggs and one of our favorites is Egg Salad Sandwiches.
Here is a list of cooking times to make sure that your egg turn out perfect every time.....
Super Soft Boiled Eggs....4 minutes
Soft Boiled..... 6 minutes
Medium Soft Boiled....8 minutes
Medium Boiled....10 minutes
Hard Boiled....12 minutes
A Few Tips. for perfect hard boiled eggs...
You can add a pinch of baking soda to the water to help the eggs peel better.
Hard boiled eggs will keep in the refrigerator in a sealed container for about a week. You can store them either before or after peeling.
When peeling an egg, start at the wider end -- there's usually a small air pocket in there, which makes the egg shell easier to remove.

Instructions
 

Place eggs into a large pot in a single layer. Add enough water to cover the eggs by one inch.

  • On medium-high heat bring the water to a boil. When the water begins to boil, remove the pot from the stove and cover the pot with a lid.
  • Set a timer for the desired cooking time 4 - 14 minutes.
  • Use a slotted spoon to place the eggs in an ice-water bath for about 5 minutes.
  • Then, place the eggs under cold running water and remove the shells.
